the family experience

Documenting your family’s life in its truest, most organic way. Because YOU deserve to be in the frame, too.

What is a Family Film

It’s for you, and for them. It’s your legacy.

Session Types & Investment

Family Legacy Session - 400

The Family Legacy Session includes unlimited shooting time (I KNOW how hard it can be with littles, which is why I find it most important to follow their lead. We can take snack breaks, rest breaks, all the breaks to make sure that no one is stressed during the capturing of the memories.

Included in the session fee is a 2-3 minute family film, and at least 50 high resolution, artfully edited photos (but usually more!)

Family Keepsake Session - 200

The Family Keepsake Session includes 1 hour of shooting time, best for those with older children who don’t need as many breaks ;)

Included in the session fee is an about 1 minute long keepsake film, and at least 20 high resolution, artfully edited photos (but usually more!)

What to Expect

Whether you've booked a film or a portrait session, we'll start off by spending a few minutes together just hanging out. This gives your kids a chance to get used to me and let off a little bit of energy in the process.

Many clients hire me because they love my non traditional approach to films and photos, but most clients still want at least a one good photo where everyone is looking at the camera, and I get it. These are super important.

So once we've gotten acquainted, I'll grab my camera and we'll dedicate 10 min or so to capturing one family portrait.

I find that this is best done once at the start of the session, and then again towards the end of the session when the light has softened.

We'll make it fun and play a few games. If the kids are losing it, we'll try again after they've burnt off some energy. Remember that these photos are meant to be relaxed and fun. Don't stress about forcing the kids to look at the camera, we may only get you and your partner looking, and that's ok. It's a snapshot of this season of life, and that's the most important thing.

Once we get that first portrait out of the way, I'll start capturing your family as you hang out, play, and love on each other.

I’ll capture the funny things your child says, the laughs you share together, and everything in between. The goal of the session is to have fun and connect as a family.

This is the ultimate, relaxed session where the focus is on real life and not perfect set ups. It’s the way you’ll want to remember your family in years to come.

The only thing I ask, is that once the portrait part is over, you try to avoid looking at the camera unless I ask you to (ie pretend I'm not there!), and do not ask your children to look at or smile for the camera either. If I want you to look at the camera, I'll ask you to.

That's it! Towards the end of your session I'll try once more for a family portrait, and then I'll head off.

A note about film sessions:

You'll probably notice me filming things other than your family sometimes. This is called B-ROLL and I will be gathering small clips of the environment throughout the session to sprinkle into your film to further enrich your story. ;)

 FAQs

  • YES! Abso-freakin-lutely! I often visit the US, as most of my family is there, and announce US sessions before I travel there on Instagram and Facebook. I also travel throughout the Azores islands for sessions with a minimal extra travel fee for islands outside of Terceira.

  • Trust me when I say do not worry about this. When you book with me, you are booking a photographer who looks beyond the smiles and the poses. You’re booking a photographer who looks for the little moments, the details, the giggles and the love. I have my ways to try to get your kiddo to smile for a portrait, but it certainly won’t be the focus. You can relax, and simply enjoy being with your family.

  • I will, but again, the most important thing is that you and your kiddos are comfortable for your session. I will guide you in what colors look good on camera, and patterns that don’t, but in the end, the goal is to capture the realness of your family as you are.

  • In my opinion, the best place for your session is your home, where you are comfortable and where we can capture some genuinely authentic moments. If you choose an outdoor session, I have LOADS of locations in Terceira that are stunning to photograph at, and I am happy to provide a list for you.

  • Your home is your safe place. It’s where you play and cook dinner and snuggle up on the couch. It’s where your memories are made, and the most beautiful place to capture them. It’s also where the kiddos are most comfortable, more likely to open up and show their truest silliest, sweetest selves. When we capture your memories in your home, you freeze those special moments in time that your kids can look back on when they’re older and remember that room, that couch, that rug, and more importantly they can remember the memories you made with them there.

  • YES! I always want all families to be able to have these tangible memories, and we can always figure out a way to make it work ❤️ You can split your payments into as many as needed to make it feasible for you.
